Check sandwich-dial alignment and the crown-guard lever action; cases are often over-polished. Beyond that, look at the case flanks under angled light, check the bracelet or strap attachment points for wear, and confirm the crown screws down cleanly with no grit in the threads.
Movement and service history
Ask for the timegrapher readout across multiple positions. Rate is less informative than amplitude: a healthy modern automatic sits comfortably above 270 degrees dial-up at full wind, and a figure far below that points to dry pivots or worn parts. A recent service invoice from the manufacture or a competent independent removes most of the uncertainty from the purchase.
How the market prices these
